THE ROLE OF CROSS CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING TO BUILD A BETTER RELATIONSHIP AMONG THE PEOPLE OF WORLD

Human are unique and complex creatures. There isn’t one in the world who totally similar to each other. The differences among us are the factor which often bring the world into conflicts. As the close relationship between men and their cultures, one way to solve the problem of world violence and make dream of peace comes true is establishing a cross cultural understanding education in every country’s education. Cross cultural understanding is the subject that can make us learn the others in order to build a better relationship and a peace world as well.
In my country, Indonesia, we’ve many differences in our societies and cultures because we are the largest archipelago country in the world with various races, religions, ethnics and groups. It’s always be a hard thing to bring the peace in our diverse nation, but we can. It refers to a cross cultural understanding we attempt to accomplish in our pluralism, though any conflict still happens in past till today. But we believe that we have walked in the true path. Everything needs process to end in a great result, we are still in the way to get it. In fact we’ve built a foundation of the culture of peace itself and it has made great changes in our relationship as a nation from long years ago when we recognized as nation and today realities.
I believe in the importance of cross cultural understanding towards the social relationship because I’ve found the evidences not only in my country but also in a country that everyone knows, United States. This semester I take an American Studies-class, therefore I’m sure to say that we absolutely need a course of cross cultural understanding in each school rooms in whole part of this world. US shows that in their pluralistic society, they can establish a great unity and understanding through the different societies by a consciously concern in the matter of cross cultural understanding subject. My country and US perhaps can’t represent the world in a whole, but we’ve launched the sample of the use of cross cultural understanding to make a better world in peace and in broadly explanation, we have made it more than a half.
Based on my experiences, the medias of cross cultural understanding can use the tools of the internet and the worldwide web social networks that connect all the people in all over the world, such as www.myspace.com, www.livemocha.com or www.facebook.com. Anyone joins in that network can share information and knowledges about their own cultures and society. Thus, they’ve already done a cross cultural understanding indirectly without they have expected before. This knowledge sharing will improve their understanding about the character of the people outside their country and by the internet the progress will be borderless. Actually the information of the events occurring in each country can give a reference in the way people get an introducing of cross cultural understanding because mankind can’t be separated from both of the historical and cultural situations surrounding themselves. For instance, I can be surprised by the fact that some of my friends in US and Iran hate their president, Obama and Ahmadinejad. As far as I know from the media, Ahmadinejad is one of the most bravery president in the world but my friend said that most of Iranian are being afraid because his act that probably gives back the trauma of war into the Iranian. In other side, I thought the election of Obama will be accepted by the Americans, but one of my chat friend said that it isn’t right because he is weak in foreign policy. There are many samples else that I can’t write in this essay like the image of China. In these network on internet, we can share much knowledge about the information of the world cultures and conditions in other countries that will encourage us to learn what we called a cross cultural understanding.
In international relationship or in any relationship else, we may face any differences that against us to be more acceptable with others. Because we are human being who everyone has attitude and behavior based on their own cultures, thus the cross cultural understanding acknowledgements are very vital if we want to speak in a larger spaces like across the nations in the world. I imagine if in each part of our planet, every country make a cross cultural understanding as a compulsory course in all school they have, the world is surely going to be a better place where people can live in peace. After all a research on the importance of cross cultural understanding education is completely necessary and we will save our self and our next generation.
